Weather, equipment and safety
Forest school activities take place outdoors in all weathers, so being comfortable and warm is essential for maximum enjoyment! Walking boots or wellingtons are suitable footwear and a waterproof jacket and trousers are recommended. Forest School does involve lots of physical exercise, but it can also include periods of being stationary, especially when we are making things, so bringing layers of warm clothing is essential. For any full-day activities, bringing enough food is also essential. It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that all children are appropriately dressed for a forest school session.
Forest school involves taking appropriate, controlled risks and this includes working with tools and fire. Philippa Snell has Level 3 Forest School training, which means thorough safety procedures and risk assessments are followed for all aspects of working outside with children, as well as having an up-to-date outdoor first aid certificate. All freelance practitioners working with Philippa possess a CRB certificate and will follow the safety and emergency procedures. Philippa Snell Wild Arts is is covered for Public liability and has professional indemnity insurance cover suitable for all our activities.
